Until modern cement Barracks were built, the Hootches were the main stay of the GI.
Some Base Hootches were constructed so they took advantage of the air currents to cool and at the same time, prevented rain from entering the structure.
These small "Baht Busses" lined up outside the main gate waiting to transport GI's to the local pub for a baht (5 cents) or two.
These Base Hootches were built differently and they had "flaps" that closed when the monsoons came to keep the rain out.
